ANICAV expresses full satisfaction with the signing by the Minister of Agriculture Maurizio Martina and the Minister of Economic Development Carlo Calenda of the Interministerial Decree to introduce the obligation to indicate the origin of tomato derivatives.
“We are pleased to note that the decree on mandatory labeling of origin has also been signed for tomato derivatives. – declares Antonio Ferraioli, president of ANICAV – The decree seems to fully share our formal position in the “Guidelines on the labeling of tomato derivatives” labeled unanimously in the last Shareholders’ Meeting of June . Labeling on the label completes the path already started by ANICAV companies in terms of transparency and food security, making it mandatory what voluntary, in almost all cases, companies already make on the label the Italian origin of tomato. ”
“Expecting to read the decree – says John De Angelis, ANICAV’s General Manager – we trust that this will put an end to the sterile and instrumental speculation our industry has undergone and continues to undergo on the legend of Chinese tomato on the tables of Italians, despite the fact that there is a need for homogenization between national and Community legislation – with an intervention on Regulation (EU) No. 1169/2011 – in order to avoid that the rule has only limited effect on Italian territory, as is already the case for tomato paste. “
